According to the United States “Western defense” October 20, 2009, U.S. Universal Display Corporation (Universal Display) is a phosphorescent OLED display and lighting technology, well-known developer. October 20, the company announced the acquisition of the U.S. Army awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase III contract, the first contract extension. According to the extension worth about 3.3 million contracts, Universal Display will continue to carry out the development of flexible OLED displays, and production in the U.S. Army to deliver a flexible metal foil display on the prototype.Universal Display Corporation and South Korea’s LG Display Corporation and the United States L-3 Display Systems, Inc. launched a partnership that will work to improve based on flexible metal foil substrate active-matrix OLED (AMOLED) display prototype design and performance. Currently the U.S. Department of Defense is being done for military purposes, to assess the technology, including a soldier in the field to use wristband style light displays. The contract extension includes a new prototype design and manufacturing, the prototype uses amorphous silicon substrate and metal foil substrates, designed by LG monitors. The new prototype will also adopt a by Universal Display Corporation to design and manufacture of phosphorescent OLED panels. This OLED displays will be thinner into a new shell, the shell from the L-3 Display Systems designs and manufactures. The new shell and smaller size than the early prototypes, more durable, in the future man will have a more flexible use of wearable and portability.
According to Universal Display Corporation officials said that in the flexible OLED display development process, the U.S. Army’s support is indispensable. The three companies will continue to cooperate on the project, in order to soldiers and a similar show clients that are lighter, smaller, more advanced properties of flexible OLED display products.
