3 United Nations Security Council issued a presidential statement, strongly condemned the day took place in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, terrorist attacks.
The statement said the attack is aimed at those who “committed to the Somali people to build peaceful, stable and prosperous future for the people.” UN Security Council to the families of those killed, Somalia and the Somali Transitional Federal Government expressed its deep condolences to the people.
The statement said that UN Security Council called for a thorough investigation of the incident, so as to bring terrorists to justice. The Council said they would continue to support the Somali people, “the pursuit of peace and reconciliation” to support the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia and the Somali peace process.
The statement also said the Council demanded that all Somali opposition to “immediately stop the attack, lay down their arms, renounce violence and join the reconciliation efforts”, and called on parties to respect international humanitarian law, to ensure that civilians, humanitarian aid workers and international peacekeepers and personnel safety.
It is reported that government-controlled areas south of the city of Mogadishu in a hotel on the 3rd suicide bomb attack, killing at least 57 people were killed and 200 injured. The dead included the Somali Minister of Health, Minister of Education and Higher Education and Minister of Culture.
