SU 35 300x265 Libya plans to spend one billion U.S. dollars to buy Russian fighter planesAccording to Defense News Web site October 19, 2009 report, Interfax News Agency reported October 19, Libya and Russia signed a plan is prepared to buy Russian fighter planes more than 20 arms contracts, a contract worth 1 billion U.S. dollars.

An unnamed source, said Libya is planning to purchase from Russia 12-15 SU -35 multi-purpose fighters, four Su -30 fighter jets and six Yak-130 combat training aircraft. The contract can be signed by end of this year or early 2010, there will be about one billion U.S. dollars (6.7 billion euros) in total value.

The source told the Interfax News Agency said, “there are many elements of the contract has been developed from a technical point of view quite well, actually ready to sign. However, in the financial aspects still need to be resolved.”

Rosoboronexport, a Russian foreign arms sales to oversee the state-owned spokesman for October 19 did not make any comment on the matter.
